About City Council

The City Council is comprised of two members from each of the three wards within the city, and one that represents the city at-large. The Mount Vernon City Council is governed by MVMC Chapter 2.12 "City Council". Meetings
Councilmembers meet for Council Meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays each month. Please check the upcoming Council agenda to confirm dates and times.

Hearing assistance equipment is available for use by the hearing impaired at City Council meetings. Please call the ADA Coordinator at (360) 336-6204 or email the ADA Coordinator to arrange for any special accommodations that you require. Click here for additional ADA information.

Public Comment
Mount Vernon City Council values and encourages community input and looks forward to hearing from you. Public comment is any comment provided as part of a public meeting. Council public comment can be provided in-person or remotely during regular Council Meetings.

Interpretation services for Community Comments are available on request. Please contact the City Clerk at beckyj@mountvernonwa.gov or 360-419-3253 at least two business days prior to the meeting if you would like an interpreter to share your comments with City Council.

In-Person Comment
In person speakers sign up the night of the meeting and will be called upon to speak. 

Remote Public Comment
If you are unable to attend the meeting and would like to make your comments via Zoom, please submit a request to speak via email to communitycomments@mountvernonwa.gov or by telephone at (360) 336-6211. Requests must be received by 4pm the day of the Council meeting.

Guidelines and Tips

  • Please limit comments to three (3) minutes or less.
  • State your name and city of residence.
  • Under normal circumstances, the Mayor and Council will not respond immediately to Community Comments. If you would like someone to follow up with you regarding the topic of your comments, please leave your name and contact information on the form at the entrance to Council Chambers.
